It is with great pleasure that we communicate with you all of our happenings that we have going on this summer. The sun is here, full force, gracing us with its presence. It is feeling like a purposeful and abundant time to show love to our community and receive all the blessings this work has to offer us. We know that our schedules our full but we are intentionally moving a little bit slower and making our way through our day with confidence, grace, measures and practices for stillness, eating well, movement when needed, and most of all freedom, freedom as to agency, freedom as to self care, freedom as to making the best decisions for ourselves at every juncture. Period!
Every year in the month of July we kick off our Come Unity Basketball League. We showcase the amazing talent and skills of many Schenectady natives while fostering positive community relations and occupying the park on the Saturdays in July: 13th, 20th, 27th, August 3rd and Sunday August 4th from 12-5pm. This year we are collaborating with the Hamilton Hill Arts center and their Culture Fest on July 20th, also happening during the league will be The March for Jesus on July 27th. We’ll have several vendors this year who will be offering different activities, products, and resources for the community during the league and yoga in the park from 12-1pm! Come by and enjoy a game and have a good time with us! Thank you to our sponsors Pioneer Bank, The Times Union Fund & Schenectady YMCA for sponsoring this event and giving back to the community!
We are kicking off our Pave The Way Campaign this month! Our goal is to raise the remaining $110,000 to aid us in our goal to close on the Carver Community Center in September. It’s been a long time coming and we are almost there, literally a few steps away. Helps us to re-open the Carver Community Center by becoming a Pave The Way Sponsor today. Sponsorship begins at $500 and you are able to pledge an amount and pay the sponsorship over the summer if needed. We want all people to be able to take part in helping to open the doors back to Carver. All sponsors will receive recognition for their support by way of having their name paved in the pathway leading to the doors of the center! You can have your business, family, or loved one recognized in the path. You don’t want to miss this opportunity to help bring us home! If you are interested in being a Pave The Way Sponsor, visit our website and contact us!
Project Backyard has began and we are working with folks in their new gardens to learn about growing their own food right at home. Meet Theresa, this is her first garden that she has created for herself. She remembers watching her grandmother growing food and singing to her plants when she was a young girl. She has been wanting to have a garden for a long time now and re-learn her connection to land. She is so happy that we were able to connect her back to the tradition of growing food, resilience and resistance.
Meet the founder! In honor of celebrating the real valuable and intimate purpose and intention behind this labor of love we call Miracle on Craig St. The founder (me 🙂 ) has decided to open up and share with you my personal story of how all of this came to be and why I felt compelled to do this work. It has been quite an evolution and I have learned so much about organizing, politics, community and most importantly, myself. You can learn more about me and my personal journey here!
I am wishing you well on your journey, hoping you enjoy every piece of sunshine and every bit of warmth and joy this summer holds for you! We know it goes fast, be intentional everyday about soaking it up!
Sun, Sun, Sun,
Where are you?
Come out and play
Kiss my face
Tell me you love me
If only for the day
And tomorrow I will sing
Your song again…
July by Star Womban
In loving Inspiration,
Rosa
